Well happy New Year. Many of us are excited to get 2020 in our rearview mirror and move on to a hopefully more normal 2021….eventually. The vaccines are rolling out and its funny that both of my daughters will be vaccinated well before I am given the option. Not that it matters anyway, pretty much settled into a routine but it will be nice to get back in church and to have friends over and not worry about “the virus”. It has a tendency to dominate the conversation. I am so over it.
I will be hanging out in Key West for a while and trying to figure out how to get my photography fix and what images I can create that will be worthy of printing. Plan to do some scouting early on to get some inspiration. I will have a vehicle so maybe a couple jaunts up the keys will be in order to get a little variety. It is very hard to find a photogenic pier in this neck of the woods that would shoot well at sunrise or sunset. You know the kind that just ends in the water and all you see in the distance is nothingness. I’m still looking and haven’t given up hope yet. I love that look and the many meanings that connecting to an image like that brings. For some, it is an opportunity to step into something new and the whole world is your oyster. You just have to have the faith and take the step. For others it is a struggle that they are at the end of their rope and are out of options. They are hemmed in by life and about ready to step off into the deep end. Regardless, I love the simplicity of the composition. I will find it if it exists.
Also considering doing a collection of the Keys that tell a story. There are some interesting folks down here that push the envelope of island living and love being so disconnected from the “mainland”. Between the dress to their style of homes and living conditions, we are all different and march to a different beat of the drum. One day here and that becomes obvious. My wife and I have been visiting the keys for about 11 straight years. Always in the winter months to get away from the cold and snow of living in the mountains of VA. So, I am sure there will be plenty of options to make up the chapters of this story but can I bring it all together and tell it. Maybe or maybe not but it will be something that I am going to try. Nothing ventured….nothing gained.
Also on the agenda is fishing. I have plenty of time to fill so finding some ideal fishing spots from the shore or the many bridges here is an option or maybe chartering a boat to give a try at some flats fishing has been on my radar for some time now. No time like the present to give it a whirl. I hear it is a little different from shore fishing or offshore fishing in deeper waters. Wish me luck.
I will check back in with some updates on my projects I will be trying as I winter out down in the warmth of the southern most point of the US. Take care everyone.
